Heisman watch: Week 8
Ashton Jeanty – Boise State running back
Jeanty has made it to the top of the Heisman ranks for the second week in arow, with his odds sitting at +200. With 1,248 rushing yards and 17 touchdownsthrough six games, Jeanty is right on track to remain a favorite if he keeps his pace up.
Jeanty is also within range of breaking legendary Barry Sanders' record for total rushing yardage in a single season. If he breaks the record, he may be a shoo-in to be the second running back in two decades to win the award.
Dillon Gabriel – Oregon quarterback
After beating down No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday, Gabriel's chances of winning the Heisman have gone to +350. With 243 passing yards and two touchdowns, he was vital in defeating the Buckeyes and came out of the game with no interceptions.
Gabriel does have some more hefty games to play the rest of the season, including Illinois and Michigan, both of which are currently ranked. After a close 32-31 win against Ohio State, these teams will continue to test Gabriel's relationship with his receivers and his analysis of the field.
Cam Ward – Miami quarterback
Senior Ward has made some impressive strides for Miami, throwing for 2,219 yards and 20 touchdowns throughout six games — a performance that has his Heisman odds at +650.
However, with two close games against unranked teams in the past couple of weeks, 38-34 against Virginia Tech and 39-38 against California, keeping that winning streak may be a struggle for the Hurricanes.
Cade Klubnik – Clemson quarterback
Junior Klubnik may have struggled in his season-opening match against Georgia, but he seems to have found his footing with a near-perfect rest of the season since then. With 1,528 passing yards, 21 total touchdowns and just two interceptions, Klubnik has officially entered the Heisman talk with his odds at +1500.
Jalen Milroe – Alabama quarterback
Milroe's junior season has been filled with ups and downs. After an incredible win against Georgia, Milroe was highlighted as the favorite to win the Heisman. After a Vanderbilt upset and a close 27-25 call against South Carolina, his odds have dropped to +1500.
Milroe still has ranked Tennessee, Missouri and LSU to face. If he can organizehis offense efficiently and pull through those games unscathed, he has a chance to become a top contender.
Travis Hunter – Colorado wide receiver/defensive back
Junior Hunter was in a top spot just a few weeks ago, with his odds sitting at just +320 due to his impressive play on both sides of the ball. After a shoulder injury during Saturday's game against Kansas State, his odds now sit at +1500.
With 49 receptions for 587 yards and six touchdowns, Hunter was a bright prospect for the Heisman before being taken out of the game. The two-way player also has 16 total tackles and two interceptions on the season.
