DAVIDSON COUNTY — A High Point man was convicted of a reduced sex offense in a case involving a child under 13 and was sentenced to 13 to 20 years in prison, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office. Avery Nickolas Rabon, 24, of Crosswinds Drive pleaded guilty to one count of attempted statutory rape in Davidson County Superior Court on Monday. He had been charged with first-degree statutory rape, first-degree statutory sex offense and indecent liberties with a minor. Officers with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office began an investigation of sex abuse of a child under 13 in October 2022. Following a forensic interview of the child at the Dragonfly House in Mocksville, Rabon was identified as a suspect and arrested in July 2023, the sheriff's office said. Rabon was sentenced to 157 to 249 months in prison. He will also be required to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for 30 years.
