High school girls basketball: Shoreland Lutheran dominates Racine Horlick
Amanda Heusterberg accomplished something special on Monday.
The three-year starting forward at Shoreland Lutheran needed 30 points to reach 1,000 points in her career and she achieved that in the Lady Pacers’ 74-23 nonconference home victory over Racine Horlick. Heusterberg scored her 1,000th point on a free throw and totaled 31 on the game.
Heusterberg was the sixth Lady Pacer to reach that milestone, following head coach Holly Bahr, Taylor Bahr, Lauren Heathcock, Ellie Harmeyer and Chelby Koker.
Shoreland Lutheran (2-1), which has won back-to-back games after dropping its season opener to Racine Park, took control from the start against Horlick (1-1). The Lady Pacers had a 20-point lead with three minutes left in the first hald and led 40-16 at the halftime break.
Defense was also key for Shoreland, which held the Rebels to just seven points in the second half.
Junior guard Grace Olsen had 13 points and was the only Shoreland player beside Heusterberg to reach double figures. Sophomore forward AJ Minar chipped in nine points, senior guard Maren Fitzpatrick had eight and senior forward Anna Koestler had seven.
The Lady Pacers will look to keep up their early-season momentum in a nonconference game against Indian Trail Nov. 28 in Somers. Metro Classic Conference play will start when Shoreland travels to Whitefish Bay Dominican on Dec. 5.
