A high school teacher has divided Aussies after revealing his eye-watering salary.

The Melbourne man revealed he earns 'just north of $160,000' a year to teach drama to high schoolers after 27 years in the industry.

He said there were many perks in being a teacher, including lengthy holidays.

'I started as an actor and then moved into teaching. The workload is alright, I'm on holidays at the moment,' the man said in video shared to TikTok.

'It's definitely worth it though. I'd encourage anyone to get into it. For any actors out there, drama teaching is the next best thing.

'You get to do your craft every day and you get to teach the future of actors.'

Despite his passion for the craft many were left in disbelief over how a drama teacher could earn so much money.

'There's no way,' one person commented.

Others questioned how they could earn the same amount of money.

'I've been teaching for 24 years [in Queensland] and I'm nowhere close to that!' a second commented.

'I am in the wrong profession,' a third said.

Some claimed teachers were 'overpaid', while others said the amount made sense.

'At state schools teaching pay is based off how many years you have taught for. This is entirely reasonable for someone who's been teaching for 27 years,' one said.
