HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Kinston, Abbeville Christian win titles

Kinston captured the Class 1A, Area 2 Tournament title at home on Wednesday, sweeping Pleasant Home 25-18, 25-17, 25-11 in the championship match.

The Bulldogs beat Emmanuel Christian 25-14, 25-9, 25-8 in the semifinals.

With the area title, Kinston (18-12) advanced to next week's South Super Regional Tournament at Montgomery's Multiplex at Cramton Bowl. The Bulldogs play next Thursday at 9:45 a.m. against Verbena.

Allyx Williamson had five kills and six aces and Lilli Sumblin had 51 assists in Wednesday's two matches to lead Kinston.

Elba finishes as runner-up: Elba finished as the area tournament runner-up in Class 1A, Area 2, falling in straight sets in the championship to Brantley.

Elba defeated Red Level in the semifinals to reach the championship round.

The Tigers face Billingsley, the Area 7 Tournament winner, in the South Super Regional Tournament next Thursday in Montgomery at 9:45 a.m.

AISA Regional Tournament

Abbeville Christian wins title: Abbeville Christian won a pair of matches to win the AISA, Class A, Regional 1 Tournament at ACA on Wednesday and earn the regional's top spot for next week's state tournament.

The Generals face Regional 2's No. 4 seed on Monday at 11 a.m. at Montgomery's Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in the state Elite Eight round.

On Wednesday, Abbeville Christian defeated Trinity Christian 19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19 to advance to the regional finals where the Generals swept Meadowview Christian 26-24, 25-21, 25-21.

Lakeside finishes third: Lakeside School went 1-1 Wednesday at the AISA Class A, Regional 1 Tournament at Abbeville Christian, finishing in third place and advancing to the state tournament in Montgomery.

The Chiefs face Regional 2's No. 2 team on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl at the state meet.

At Wednesday's regional at ACA, Lakeside was swept in three sets by Meadowview Christian in the semifinals but bounced back to win a consolation match over Trinity Christian, winning three of four sets.
