The California Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver who did not stop following a collision about 11:40 p.m. Friday near Newport Drive in Discovery Bay. That wreck killed 87-year-old pedestrian Beverly Sweeney, of Discovery Bay. She died at the scene.

Authorities did not provide a possible reason why Sweeney may have been out on a roadway so late at night. The CHP has not released any public information on the vehicle that hit Sweeney, and asked anyone with information to contact their office at or 925-646-4980.

The CHP is still awaiting toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in that crash.
