WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Republican Hillary Hickland wins the Texas House District 55 seat against Democrat Jennifer Lee. Hickland received 57.9% of the votes to Lee's 42.1 with 85.4% of the total votes counted. Hickland was a stay-at-home mom in the Belton area and previously worked with Gov. Abbott through her activism to get laws changed when it came to regulating books in public school libraries. She is also an advocate for school choice, a priority of Gov. Abbott this election cycle. Ahead of the Republican Primary, Hickland received multiple endorsements, including former President Donald Trump, Gov. Abbott and Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz.
