Hinsdale D181 Leader Plans To Retire
HINSDALE, IL – Hector Garcia, who became Hinsdale School District 181's superintendent in 2018, plans to retire in two years.
According to a district memo, Garcia will leave June 30, 2026, ending a 34-year career in education.
On Monday, the school board is set to discuss the succession plan for the superintendent's position.
Under Garcia's leadership, the district has achieved "remarkable success" and "unprecedented stability," the memo said.
The memo said the highlights of Garcia's tenure include national and state recognition, "outstanding" academic performance, major construction projects, administrator stability and increased safety.
The board plans to review search firms to help look for a new superintendent.
The topic will be discussed again at the board's Oct. 21 meeting.
Before coming to Hinsdale, Garcia, who has a doctorate, was superintendent of Plano School District 88.
Garcia's salary was $273,763 last year, according to the district's compensation report.
