“Holiday Happenings” event returns to West Reading
The four-day “Holiday Happenings” series of events is returning to the Scottish Rite Cathedral in West Reading after a four-year absence, organizers have announced.
The Valley of Reading chapter of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite will hold events on Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The holiday programs were canceled in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a fire in the Scottish Rite lobby.
This year’s “Holiday Happenings” features the Valley of Reading Model Train Club’s collection of various scales of hobby trains, in addition to the permanent train display in the banquet hall.
The traditional Lego display will be on Dec. 9 and 10 only.
There will be a live Nativity scene in the area next to the auditorium entrance, and returning will be the “Tuba Christmas” show on Dec. 2 in the theatre at 7 p.m.
On Dec. 3, the Reading Choral Society will perform a Christmas music program at 5 p.m. featuring local vocalists singing familiar holiday music, and everyone will be invited to sing along to Handel’s Messiah.
On Dec. 10, organist Robert Trimble will present well-known music on the theatre organ.
There will be nightly visits from Santa Claus.
Admission to the events is free, and complimentary refreshments will be available.
