A Holmes High School student was arrested Friday morning after an administrator found a weapon in the student's backpack, according to school officials.

The weapon was not used in a "threatening manner," officials said in a statement on the school's website, adding that school security, Covington police and a school resource officer worked with administrators to resolve the situation.

The student, whose identity hasn't been released, is in custody and school officials say they are cooperating with authorities.

"At Holmes High School the well-being and safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we will continue to implement all safety protocols to ensure our environment is safe for everyone," the statement reads.
