(WBRE/WYOU) — Police say the victim of a home invasion in Hanover Township tackled one of the three suspects to prevent him from escaping until officers arrived.

According to the Hanover Township Police Department, on November 4 around 6:00 p.m., a man and a woman were in a bedroom on the second floor of their home on Lee Park Avenue when they heard footsteps outside the door.

Police stated the victim thought it was a family member in the hallway until three men wearing masks with handguns stormed into the bedroom.

The victim then fought with one of the suspects, later identified as Yasin Omar Hamm, 20, of Scranton, to take the gun out of his hands, investigators reported.

The victim allegedly fought with Omar Hamm out of the bedroom, towards the staircase where the two ended up falling down the stairs.

The other two masked suspects escaped out of the front door and when Omar Hamm tried to flee the victim tackled him, stopping his escape, as stated in the affidavit.

Officers said the victim held Omar Hamm down until police arrived on the scene to arrest him.

A .40-caliber Glock loaded with 13 rounds was recovered and Omar Hamm claimed he did not know the other suspects, but was asked to take part in the robbery, according to court documents.

Omar Hamm was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, terroristic threats, criminal trespass, and simple assault.

According to online court records, he remains in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on a $100,000 bail.
