Horse Tracks: How about that O-line?
J.Wright3 months ago
Of all the stats important to the Denver Broncos ’ win on Sunday, none may be more important than the ones belonging to Myles Garrett. Because the standout edge rusher having a career year and being mentioned in the DPOY conversations had ZERO sacks, ZERO QB hits and just one batted ball. Not to mention only two tackles. Give credit where it’s due - the Broncos’ offensive line. Garett Bolles took Myles Garrett from the left side of the offensive line ALL THE WAY past the right tackle.

The whole line played great across the board. I think [Ben] Powers was as physical as can be. ‘Cush’ (C Lloyd Cushenberry III) [is] smart and physical. Quinn [Meinerz] has been dominant all year and [Mike] McGlinchey, that guy can move.” More often than not it was Broncos’ left tackle Garett Bolles who was tasked with neutralizing the four-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl DE who just happens to be in the midst of a career season. “[Bolles] is extremely athletic. Man, he played his butt off yesterday. He had a tough assignment. He was going up against one of the better defensive players. To his credit, he battled.” - Sean Payton Garrett has a league-leading 13 sacks through 11 games. He has also tallied 30 tackles, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He’s a one-man wrecking crew. But Bolles was more than up for the task of making sure Garrett never even brushed the jersey of Rauu the quarterback. “[Bolles] is extremely athletic. Man, he played his butt off yesterday,” said head coach Sean Payton. “[He] had a tough assignment. We knew that was going to be a challenge. He was going up against one of the better defensive players. To his credit, when we watched the tape, man, he battled. ...The chemistry of that room has really changed and it’s really been an asset for our club.” Beat reporter Andrew Mason firmly believes the offensive line is the best it has been in years and one of the main reasons we can even talk about the Broncos as playoff contenders. For years, it seems like the Broncos offensive line has been a weakness. Now it’s a strength, and led by Garett Bolles, it was arguably the biggest reason why the Broncos rolled Sunday, as reports: pic.twitter.com/uXiIHs5L0L — Denver Sports November 27, 2023 Part of the O-line’s secret this season is playing the same five guys every game. If there’s a unit in football that relies on good communication, it’s the O-line. And if that gets switched up a lot, communication gets scrambled too. “We just knew we couldn’t let a player like that beat us,” head coach Sean Payton said, adding that right from the opening play, the Broncos had to devote a lot of attention to Garrett. “And rightfully so.” It didn’t hurt that the Broncos ran the ball, something an offensive line always prefers. “They have a great defense. They have a great pass rush. The more we could take those pass rushers out of the game, the better,” running back Samaje Perine said. “I feel like we did a pretty good job of that today.” Three of the five #Broncos starting offensive linemen are ranked within the top-20 at their respective positions, according to :
