How Many Siblings Does Victor Wembanyama Have? All About Spurs Star’s Enormous Kin Developing In France
V.Davis32 min ago
"I had the choice and I still have the choice to play or not play basketball, but basketball has always been around. I can't avoid it in my family." For Victor Wembanyama , the sport he chose to devote his life to was there to influence him from the start. Much of it was in part to his mother, Elodie, who served as a professional basketball player during her youth. Elodie's own father, who was a star on the court during the 60s, influenced her. This passion for the ball game has been passed down from generation to generation. Therefore, Wemby may be glad that the same thing has not only influenced him. It has also influenced his siblings who remain very close to his heart. Therefore, without any further ado, let us know more about the French player's kin who are making their own mark in the world of basketball. Who are Victor Wembanyama's siblings? It may surprise you to know that Victor Wembanyama is actually not the eldest child of his family! Though, thanks to his undisputed height, he is certainly the tallest. Wemby has an elder sister, Eve, who was born back in December 2001. Unfortunately, the future NBA star couldn't enjoy the perks of being the youngest sibling for long. After all, almost three years after his birth came Oscar Wembanyama. Similarly to her brothers, Eve Wembanyama grew up in the former commune of Le Chesnay, France. She began her basketball journey at a young age and joined her first professional club in 2019. This was four years before the San Antonio Spurs would draft her younger brother into the NBA. During her first and only season with Lyon, of the LBWL professional League, she only played three games. Her stats weren't anything memorable, as she averaged 0 points with only 0.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists. However, she later joined the Calais Club of the LF2 league and found better success there. During the 2021-22 season, her average score had increased to 6.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. The same number only went up during her time with AS Monaco Basket. The points stat is now at a high, with an average of 9 points per game, during her ongoing season with the USO Mondeville Basket. Eve's basketball journey has not been restricted to simply local clubs. According to FIBA Basketball, she competed in the 2017 FIBA U16 Women's European Championship – Division A. The team came first thanks to a 7-0 record. Eve herself contributed 2.6 points, and 2.6 rebounds in 5 of the matchups. Her association with the LDLC ASVEL Feminin club allowed her to compete in the EuroLeague Women's championship too. Later, she took the spotlight on the international stage in 2021 as part of the FIBA U20 Women's European Challengers. Eve may not be the same height as her younger brother. However, her 6-foot-1 stature still gives her a proper advantage. Did Oscar also follow the same path as Eve and Victor Wembanyama? According to People , Oscar Wembanyama was certainly influenced by his elder siblings' progression in the field of basketball. In an interview with Euroleague basketball, he stated, "My sister and my brother were both French champions, and that was my goal from the start of the season, even though I was just starting basketball." As the entire world attempted to recover/avoid the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic by staying at home, Oscar Wembanyama used the time to switch from handball to basketball. By 2021, the younger Wembanyama had joined Nanterre 92, the same professional club in which Wemby played from 2019 to 2021. After winning the French Under 15 title, Oscar made the switch to the LDLC ASVEL's U18 team. Oscar made an appearance twice in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament. He played during the 2023 season held in Patras, and the 2024 one in Dubai. He averaged 2.4 points per game, along with a field goal percentage of 22.2%, a three-pointer percentage of 20%, and a field goal percentage of 83.3%. Do Victor Wembanyama's siblings share any aspirations to play in the NBA and WNBA? As of now, neither Eve nor Oscar Wembanyama have expressed any desire to leave France and try their luck in the American basketball leagues. However, this doesn't mean that someone isn't highlighting one of them as a potential draft pick. Despite having played only 2-3 years' worth of basketball, Oscar Wembanyama has been catching the attention of several basketball enthusiasts. Jonathan Givony, the NBA Draft Analyst for ESPN, even put out a statement back in July, stating "6'8, 17-year old forward is at an early stage of development, but is a rangey defender who can make shots, plays with strong activity and shows nice flashes of passing ability. Good high end academic D1 candidate." The young Wembanyama also represented the Select Team during the NBA Academy Games. During the same, he faced off against Africa Blue, Global Academy, and Howard Pulley. The academy highlighted one of his sequences on their official Instagram handle, giving Oscar some needed attention. If reports are to be believed, then the player can choose to opt for the NBA Draft as early as 2026, or 2027. However, even if he did join the NBA, Oscar would be someone who would be in his elder brother's shadow. The young player once discussed forging his own identity, stating, "My goal is not to do exactly like him (Wemby) but to write my own story, as beautiful as possible. The only pressure I receive is from others who give it to me, from constantly being compared to (Victor), and all the questions I am asked about him. People sometimes see me only as Victor's brother, and that's not the case." Therefore, the NBA may not be what Oscar would choose to call home anytime in the near future.
