How the Seahawks had so little go right, and won by so much

The Seattle Seahawks are one of the few remaining teams yet to lose in 2024.

Almost as remarkable is the way they won at home against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. See, what the Seahawks don't have yet is a loss. But they also went without several other pieces - incredibly important pieces - of a good football team and still won the game.

My point here, is that Seattle just won a very bad football game. This isn't something they did much of the last couple years, and it is an incredibly positive sign for the team moving forward.

Before you say "hang on, haven't you watched Russell Wilson ever, the Seahawks won bad football all the time! In fact they majored in it" - I'm not talking about the style of play. I'm talking about what the team did not have on Sunday, yet still came out with the W.

The Turnover Margin It's been well-noted already, but Seattle was minus two in the turnover differential, and still won by 21, something that hadn't been done since my pa was playing in leather helmets, or thereabouts.

Third Downs The Seahawks were 3-for-11 on third down against Miami. That typically accompanied a loss a year ago. One big difference this season, is they now have the ability to make opposing offenses play even worse, as the Dolphins were only 1-for-12.

Dunno if you ever heard of Kenneth Walker, Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy, Abe Lucas or George Fant? Not only are these some of the more household names on the team, but notice where they all play. It's not lost on me in the slightest that this team keeps winning with barely a run game to speak of. Zach Charbonnet finally came alive, but that was after about five consecutive quarters of drivel going back last week.

And then you mean to tell me that the two interior defenders both went down, and the team held De'Von Achane to 30 rushing yards??

Can't run, can't stop the run, led to a 1-5 stretch in the second half of 2023. This time around, the team has enough firepower and coaching creativity on both sides to overcome.

A Return Game Unlike the OT victory against the New England Patriots , Seattle did not win through special teams. In fact they were quite bad. Sometimes that third phase is necessary to overcome some of the shortcomings listed above. Not this week.

Not to beat a dead horse but, Protection It's awkward to keep having to point out that one or two guys are constantly on the verge of dooming the entire offense into uselessness. Anthony Bradford is playing horribly and Geno Smith deserves a medal, a contract, a Pro Bowl , and probably counseling services for a year for the amount of up-the-middle pressure he continues to see.

Eleven penalties. Miami had 10, but Seattle's cost more yards. Some of them were even real infractions that actually happened!

At the end of the day, fans might simply conclude that the Dolphins are a basement level team and the Seahawks are fortunate to have played them now when they are this inept.

I do not conclude that, and I encourage you to go outside and drink some coffee and rethink your disposition on life.

I see a team that has yet to come even close to its best ball, and just won an NFL game by 21 points.

Go ask the Tampa Bay Buccaneers how it feels to play Bo Nix.

Ordinarily, you stack up four of these deficiencies and you end up with a loss. These 'Hawks though...there's something here. Whether depth of talent, coaching prowess, mentality, whatever you want to call it. I'm pretty fired up.
