How to meet a former MLB player Monday

Brighton, N.Y. (WROC) — Ryan Lavarnway, who played on a number of major league baseball teams, will be stopping by Rochester for a book event.

He'll be reading and signing his own book, Baseball and Belonging, to an audience at the JCC's Hart Theater.

The book details his journey from the major leagues to the Israeli Olympic and World Baseball Classic baseball teams and how the experience helped him to find his Jewish identity.

While religious in nature, Lavarnway says the books overall message is not.

"I really think that people, especially kids, need to see a journey where you can follow your passions and find your place in the world," he said.

The event starts at 11 am Monday, November 11.
