SEATTLE, WA - One of the best teams in the country looks to stay in the hunt for the College Football Playoff in a rivalry matchup, as the Washington Huskies host the Washington State Cougars for the Apple Cup.

Washington State Cougars (5-6, 2-6 Pac-12) vs. #4 Washington Huskies (11-0, 8-0 Pac-12)

The two powers from Washington first met on the gridiron in 1900. Since then, they have had many legendary battles, including instances with teams vying for conference championships. The Huskies are 75-33-6 against Washington State, winning eight of the last nine meetings.

The Huskies are right on the cusp of being in the running for the national championship. However, if they want the opportunity, they need to avoid an upset against their rivals on Saturday, and win their first Pac-12 Championship in five years next week. They came close to throwing away that opportunity in Week 11, as they barely got by Oregon State, winning 22-20 in Corvallis. Washington has had a series of close calls as of late. Since their 59-23 decimation of Cal in late September, the Huskies have won every game by 10 or less points, with only three games coming against ranked opponents.

Early on, some might have thought the Cougars could have snuck their way into the Pac-12 title conversation, given their 4-1 start, and how they played against Oregon. However, they have stumbled in conference play, losing five of six games. They revived some optimism after a 56-14 whooping of Colorado last Saturday, but still need to pull off the upset if they want to go to a bowl game.
