HOUSTON - Two teams fighting for first place in the AFC South meet in the Lone Star State on Sunday, as the Houston Texans host the Jacksonville Jaguars.

These two teams met back in Week 3, when the Texans took care of business in northern Florida, hammering the Jaguars by 20.

That set the tone for the battle within the division between the rising franchises. Not many expected Houston to be contending for a playoff spot, by rookie quarterback CJ Stroud, along with a competent defense, has had the Texans sitting on the cusp of not just a postseason berth, but a division championship.

Despite a stunning loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 8, Houston has managed to win some close games, including beating the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks ago. Outside of their victories over the Jags and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Texans have only defeated teams by a single score. They currently sit tied for sixth in the conference, just one game back of Jacksonville.

That loss seemingly kicked the Jaguars into high gear. Notable wins over the Buffalo Bills and Steelers have kept Jacksonville at the top of the South, having won six of their last seven games. Even though they lost handily to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10, the Jags’ offense, led by Trevor Lawrence, has been solid. The team has scored 30 or more points in three of their last five games.

Something will have to give on Sunday, as the Texans are 4-1 at home, while the Jaguars are a perfect 4-0 on the road.

Houston is 29-14 against Jacksonville since their first clash in 2002.
