H.S. Basketball: Lehman gets breakthrough win; Nanticoke Area’s Jake Krupinski hits 1,000 points
Max Paczewski scored 15 points and Neil Doughtery added 11 as Lake-Lehman defeated Nanticoke Area 40-33 in a District 2 Class 4A quarterfinal game, marking the Black Knights’ first postseason win since 2014.
Nanticoke Area’s Jake Krupinski also reach a milestone by scoring his 1,000th career point. He finished with seven. JJ Bielecki led the fifth-seeded Trojans with 14.
Lehman’s last district win was against West Scranton in the Class 3A second round. The fourth-seeded Black Knights now have the task of playing at top-seeded Scranton Prep at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Scranton Prep 80, Hanover Area 51
Eighth-seeded Hanover Area took a seven-point lead after one quarter, but the Hawkeyes were eventually overwhelmed by top-seeded Scranton Prep in a D2-3A quarterfinal contest.
Todd Kolbicka scored all eight of his points in the first quarter, while Matt Barber added seven of his 11 as Hanover Area led 21-14.
Prep, though, outscored the Hawkeyes 31-6 in the second period to seize control. Gavin Bernarz and Rob Rossi netted 14 each for the Cavaliers. Mike Skoff added 13. Prep will host Lake-Lehman in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Dallas 66, Honesdale 48
Second-seeded Dallas took control by halftime and went on to defeat seventh-seeded Honesdale in a D2-4A quarterfinal game.
The backcourt of Austin Finarelli and Nick Nocito paced the Mountaineers, who will host either Tunkhannock or Mid Valley in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Those two teams play Sunday afternoon.
Finarelli had 23 points and Nocito scored 21 as they helped Dallas take a 36-16 lead into the break. Mike Cumbo added 13.
Jacob Lyle scored 14 for Honesdale.
Mid Valley 42, Wyoming Area 22
A poor second quarter proved costly as the seventh-seeded Warriors fell to third-seeded Mid Valley in a D2-4A quarterfinal game.
Wyoming Area trailed by three entering the second quarter only to be outscored 17-0. Jesse Mikoliczyk led the Warriors with eight points. Matt Sorick had six.
Gabe Tanner netted 15 for Mid Valley, which plays at Dallas in the semifinals on Tuesday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Western Wayne 64, Wyoming Seminary 30
Sixth-seeded Wyoming Seminary saw its season come to an end with a 64-30 loss to third-seed Western Wayne in a D2-3A quarterfinal game.
Kaeli Romanowski led a trio of Wildcats in double figures with 21 points. Western Wayne travels to second-seeded Montrose on Tuesday.
Cassidy Skoranski scored 14 and Margaret Mihalick had 13 for Seminary.

Also in D2-3A quarterfinal games, Lakeland defeated Mid Valley 52-38 and Montrose defeated Carbondale Area 49-37.
