Hugh Jackman joins Martha Stewart in teasing Ryan Reynolds: 'Finally someone says it'

You might have thought that Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds costarring in one of the highest-grossing Hollywood blockbusters of the year would've put an end to their long-running fake feud. Well, you would be wrong.

Jackman didn't hesitate to get in on the fun when Martha Stewart dissed Reynolds in a recent interview . During her recent appearance on Bilt Rewards' Rent Free game show, Stewart was introduced to a public poll of which celebrities people think would be the most fun to hang out with. Stewart, who is neighbors with Reynolds in real life, shared that she thinks fans overestimate how humorous Reynolds is when he isn't performing, and that he's "not so funny" out of costume.

"You want to know something? He's not so funny in real life...he's very serious," Stewart said. She added, "he's a good actor. He can act funny, but he isn't funny."

When Reynolds responded to the quotes on Twitter , Jackman saw an opening.

"Finally someone says it," Jackman tweeted in response to Reynolds.

Deadpool & Wolverine felt like a fitting culmination for Reynolds and Jackman's long-running joke feud , precisely because that rivalry had started from the fact that they both played major X-Men characters in Fox superhero films, and had in fact appeared together in the disastrous 2009 flop X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Reynolds technically played Deadpool in that movie, but it was a far cry from the fourth wall-breaking motormouth he would become in his solo Deadpool movies. In those movies, Reynolds would make fun of Jackman's Wolverine (the X-Men franchise's signature character at that point), while telling reporters off-screen that he was hoping for a reunion.

"I want Deadpool and Wolverine in a movie together," Reynolds told Entertainment Weekly way back in 2016 , following the first Deadpool movie. "What we're gonna have to do is convince Hugh. If anything, I'm going to need to do what I can to get my internet friends back on board to help rally another cause down the line."

Unfortunately for Reynolds, it was only a few months later that Logan hit theaters as a definitive swan song for Jackman's Wolverine . Well, it seemed so at the time, because that film literally ended with the character dying onscreen. Thus deprived of the collaboration he had hoped for, Reynolds spent the next couple years joking around with Jackman in other ways. For instance, in April 2018, Jackman recorded a Happy Birthday message for a fan that featured an appearance from Reynolds in Deadpool costume (as part of viral marketing for that year's Deadpool 2).

After the Disney-Fox deal went through in 2019, Reynolds and Jackman found a way to bring their characters back together. After a few more years of development with Marvel Studios, Deadpool & Wolverine finally hit theaters this year and made more than $1 billion at the international box office. While promoting that film, the two stars made clear that their feud really is fake.

"I would say that [ours] is like any relationship that is successful and works: It's that two parties are rooting for each other," Reynolds told EW this summer . "I'm always rooting for Hugh to score and win. I also know the infinite nuance of his heart and his mind and who he is. I can say firsthand that he's a person who's not just worth rooting for, he's somebody who's impossible to not root for."
