Hunter seriously injured in tree-stand fall in Freedom

Nov. 14—A 52-year-old Center Ossipee man suffered serious injuries Thursday morning when he fell nearly 16 feet from a tree stand while hunting in Freedom, officials said.

Scott Seamans had been hunting from a tree stand when the support cables snapped, New Hampshire Fish and Game officials said in a news release.

Seamans called 911 and guided rescuers from the Freedom and Center Ossipee fire departments nearly a half-mile from the road. Rescuers carried him out in a litter and he was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries around 8:30 a.m.

Fish and Game officials said hunters who use elevated stands should check the straps and replace cables when they've been exposed to the outdoor elements for extended periods of time. They also urged hunters to use safety harnesses.
