Huntington County school district to switch to eLearning Day Thursday following ‘potential threat’

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Huntington County Community School Corporation will be switching to a synchronous eLearning day on Thursday following a 'potential threat' to a district school.

In a release from the school district, Huntington County Community School Corporation Superintendent John Trout shared that the administration of Huntington North High School was made aware of a report regarding a potential threat involving a student bringing a weapon to school following the school day Wednesday.

Huntington County Community School Corporation and Huntington City Police Department have been working together since Wednesday's dismissal to investigate the 'potential threat'. On Wednesday evening, local law enforcement was also made aware of additional social media posts toward the school district believed to be tied to this initial threat.

In an abundance of caution and to allow local law enforcement more time to investigate these threats, Trout says the Huntington County Community School Corporation will be switching to a synchronous eLearning day on Thursday.

Since the eLearning day was not planned, the district says students who will not have their school devices with them will be able to make up missed assignments on Friday.

Trout says once the investigation has concluded, and the safety and security of our students, staff, and buildings have been ensured, he will communicate to the Huntington County Community School Corporation community its findings.

The school district says the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain the highest priority.
