‘I’d be worried if I was looking at the GPS and was getting slower and slower’ – Clare’s John Conlon still has a lot to give

In a way it is an act of defiance, John Conlon agrees, his beating against time and tide. "Like, you would often hear people say, 'oh he's too old now' or 'he's gone too slow' or 'he's lost his legs'. I'd just laugh at it. I'd take it as more of a chance to prove you wrong. That was always my mentality and always will be my mentality."

On Saturday he will play for Clare in an All-Ireland semi-final at 35. TJ Reid will be on the same field at 36, turning 37 before year's end. The next day Patrick Horgan will be darting around after ball at 36 against Limerick. All three are performing at the highest level, more than earning their keep.
