Idaho Congressman Russ Fulcher re-elected to fourth term in U.S. House of Representatives

Republican U.S. Rep. Russ Fulcher won a fourth term to represent Idaho's 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Associated Press declared Fulcher the general election winner at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday.

Fulcher had 71.5% of votes over three challengers, with 123,548 total votesaccording to unofficial election results from the Idaho Secretary of State's Office. Democrat Kaylee Peterson, who has challenged him twice, received 25.2% of the votes.

Libertarian Matt Loesby received 1.8% of votes and Constitution Party candidate Brendan J. Gomez received 1.5% of votes.

Idaho's — home to roughly — splits Ada County, includes some of Boise and spans the state's western border through the Idaho panhandle in the north.

Tuesday's general election results won't become official until the State Board of Canvassers certifies the election results. The canvass is scheduled to occur Nov. 26, said Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane.

In Congress, Fulcher's top priorities are tackling inflation, security for the southern border, and resource management, he told the Sun last month.

In the May primary election, Fulcher did not face a Republican challenger

Fulcher, 62, has represented Idaho in Congress since 2019 for three terms. U.S. House of Representatives terms are two years.

Since 2000, only one Democrat has been elected to represent Idaho's 1st Congressional District, for one term.

Since 2018, when Fulcher was first elected after winning 62.8% of votes, he received a growing share of votes in future re-election bids
