ELKO — An Idaho man was jailed on a charge he attacked his brother at a Mountain City Highway hotel on Sunday.

Jett H. Machado, 24, was arrested on a felony charge of battery with substantial bodily harm and a misdemeanor count of unlawful discharge of a firearm.

According to court documents, Elko police were dispatched at 4:52 a.m. to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital on a report of a man who sought treatment for injuries sustained in a fight at the Hampton Inn.

The man told police he was sharing a room with Machado and his girlfriend when he had an argument with his girlfriend. After she left the room, the man said he went to sleep.

He said he was awakened by Machado "punching him in the face" and beginning a "physical fight throughout the room."

Police went to the hotel and found Machado. Officers observed the victim had "severe bleeding, bruising and swelling" of the face and bruising above the right eye. The man's eyes were "nearly swollen shut and his eyeballs appeared to have trauma to them."

Officers also noticed the man's knuckles were swollen, and his white shirt was covered in dried blood.

Police found Machado at the hotel and saw his shirt was also covered in blood. They also spotted "redness to his face, as well as swelling behind his left ear." The hotel room also had "blood throughout the room."

Witnesses told authorities they had heard "a scuffle inside the room."

Machado admitted to punching his brother "in the face with a closed fist" and started fighting around the room. He also told police they had been fighting earlier that night at a wedding.

A background check revealed Machado had a warrant charging the unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Machado was arrested and booked into the Elko County Jail.

His bail was set at $50,640.
