‘In a few years there’ll be a lot more girls playing’ – Katie McCabe and Abbie Larkin on a mission to grow game

Ireland's women's football team have two games left in the Euro qualifiers and it's been a tough campaign so far: Four played, four lost. At times, there has been a palpable feeling of frustration on the pitch.

"From our point of view right now, it's not an ideal situation, where we are in the group," says Katie McCabe. "Results have been tough to take, but we knew it was going to be a massive challenge, playing such high quality opposition. We're in a group with three of the best teams in the world. This shows us the level we need to keep striving for, and keep improving on. But there's still two games to go and we want to finish as high as we possibly can and get some points out of those games."
