Insurance agent advises East Texans on how to handle vehicle crash damage

S.Wright44 min ago
LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - It happens every day across this country and here in East Texas: motor vehicle crashes.

Sometimes they result in minor damage; sometimes they total the vehicle.

At places like Cutter Towing in Longview, wrecked vehicles are brought in every day, some still driveable and some a total loss. It's at this point that most people go through their insurance on the vehicle.

However, if the owner or lien holder does not respond to letters from the towing company and do not claim it or pick it up, even if it's still operational, the vehicle becomes the property of the tow company.

Usually 30 days after the second communication from the tow company, if no response is made, the vehicle will be scrapped. Insurance companies like State Farm also advise customers to educate themselves on their options when it comes to insured vehicles.

State Farm Agent Tara Harris says a mistake in insurance options could create a problem if there should be another wreck in the future.
