KIRKWOOD, Mo. – A St. Louis man has been charged with murder after he fled from police while intoxicated and eventually crashed, killing another driver in Kirkwood.

According to the Kirkwood Police probable cause statement, John E. Brink, age not identified, has been charged with second-degree and resisting arrest after the crash on May 4 going 99 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour area Big Bend Boulevard.

Court documents state Brink and a passenger were driving a vehicle with no front license plates onto southbound Kirkwood Rd. and Brink almost hit a police officer's vehicle. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Brink continued at a high rate of speed.

The officer approached the railroad track on Kirkwood Road when Brink continued south and his vehicle increased in speed.

After Brink had made a right turn onto westbound Big Bend Boulevard, the officer noticed Brink kept driving with no intent to slow down or stop. Brink then drove through a red light at high rate of speed and crashed into another vehicle, killing the victim inside.

As the officer responded to the crash, Brink was arrested. The passenger in Brink's vehicle told police they had purchased alcohol and were both consuming an alcoholic drink out of a gallon jug while driving.

Brink lied to police about the speed he was traveling at and lied about drinking while intoxicated.

When police conducted a search warrant for a blood sample of Brink, they discovered his blood was still a .05 blood alcohol content almost six hours after the crash.

Brink has been charged with second-degree murder, driving under the influence, and resisting arrest. He has been given a $250,000 bond with no 10 percent.
