Investigators locate drugs on driver of stolen vehicle in Binghamton
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A man was arrested in Binghamton on Monday after allegedly stealing a vehicle while having drugs and paraphernalia on his person.
On November 4, members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force were alerted by the Binghamton Police Department license plate reader system that a vehicle that was reported being used without the owner's authorization was located.
Investigators followed the vehicle to the area of the Brandywine Highway and the Route 17/81 on ramp and performed a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Keanu Downey, 28. Downey was found to have an active arrest warrant for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
Downey was searched and placed under arrest. During the search investigators located approximately 57 grams of crack cocaine, $3,350 in suspected drug proceeds, and a digital scale.
As a result of the investigation, Downey was arrested and charged with the following:
Criminal use of Drug Paraphernalia in the Second degree
He was transported to the Binghamton Police Department for processing.
