Is Macy's leaving Center City location?

CENTER CITY - There is speculation that Macy's is considering leaving its iconic Center City location on Market Street. Some City Hall insiders believe there is a chance.

Councilmember Curtis Jones, Jr. suggested during questioning the store was considering giving up its lease in the Wanamaker building.

Questioned later by FOX 29's Jeff Cole, Councilmember Jones said he first heard the mews last holiday season after a store security guard was stabbed to death in the building.

Cole then asked Councilmember Mark Squilla when he knew about Macy's plans. He replied, "We don't have a definite answer from them as far as I'm concerned. We'll speak to Commerce and see if they know anything different. But, that would be a big hit to East Market, along with the other vacancies that are there right now."

Macy's and the Center City Business Association have not replied to FOX 29's inquiries regarding their status.

Former U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, a New York Republican who resigned from Congress following a tax fraud conviction, is paralyzed from the chest down after being thrown from a horse during a polo tournament, according to friends who are raising funds to pay for the ex-lawmaker's medical care. Grimm, 54, suffered the devastating injury in September and is now being treated at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where the late actor Christopher Reeve was treated after a similar equestrian accident in 1995, according to Vincent Ignizio, a friend of Grimm's who is a former New York City Council member. "It was a passion of his and he suffered a tragic accident at the end of September," said Ignizio, who has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for Grimm's medical care.

An eagled-eyed husband and wife were sailing in Hawaii when they spotted mysterious objects in the distance. Camila and Ryan Sullivan found five scuba divers drifting at sea. They told their rescuers that they were on a diving excursion. When they surfaced, they realized that they drifted away and their dive boat was nowhere to be found. The couple tried to pull them to safety but the sea was too rough. They radioed the U.S. Coast Guard. Twenty minutes later, help finally arrived.

The 37-year-old man was waiting in line at a Virginia Beach 7-Eleven, staring into his strawberry-melon Big Gulp, when he saw the red dot appear on the side of the cup. It was around 2 a.m., July 25, 2019. His eyes followed the dot to two hooded men pointing guns at him and the clerk. He tried to stay calm as the clerk begged with the men, one shoveling cash out of the register. The ...

A judge recused himself Tuesday from presiding over Arizona's fake electors case after an email surfaced in which he told fellow judges to speak out against attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for the presidency. In the Aug. 29 email, Maricopa County Judge Bruce Cohen lamented that he didn't speak out when Harris was called a "DEI hire," believes that white men must speak out against unfair treatment of women, and raised a historical lesson from the Holocaust about the need to speak up when people are attacked. Cohen didn't specify who made the comment regarding Harris.

A man who authorities said was upset over his divorce settlement rammed his car into a crowd of people exercising at a sports complex in southern China, killing 35 and severely injuring dozens of others, police said Tuesday. Police detained the 62-year-old man, who is being treated for wounds thought to be self-inflicted, shortly after the attack Monday night in Zhuhai. The city is hosting the People's Liberation Army's aviation exhibition, which opened Tuesday, and searches for what happened were heavily censored for users behind China's Great Firewall.
