Saturday: We will be flirting with the triple digits again on Saturday, with high temperatures peaking in the upper 90s to lower 100s. A partly cloudy sky can be expected around the region, with isolated showers and storms developing over northwestern areas after 1 PM CDT. By sunset, showers and storms will fade away. Locally heavy downpours and gusty winds around 40-60 MPH will accompany the strongest storms. Some areas could see as much as 0.25′′-0.50′′ of rainfall. During the Texas Tech game vs. UNT, it will be hot, but dry in Lubbock. Winds throughout the day will be out of the south-southwest around 12-18 MPH. Saturday night into Sunday morning will fall back into the upper 50s to low 70s under a partly cloudy sky.

SHORT TERMFORECAST:

Above average temperatures will remain around eastern New Mexico and western Texas on Sunday and Monday. Isolated showers and storms will also remain around the region during the short term forecast period, with the best chance remaining over the northern portions of the KLBK viewing area. Most areas will remain completely dry, with northern areas seeing up to 0.25′′ with the heaviest downpours. Daytime highs will continue to range from the upper 80s through the 90s, with morning lows in the upper 50s to low 70s. Winds will be out of the south-southeast around 10-20 MPH, with occasional gusts as high as 25-35 MPH. Be sure to remain hydrated when outdoors for extended periods of time, and wear sunscreen!

EXTENDED FORECAST:

Warm and windy conditions will remain across the region as we head into our extended forecast period! Highs will remain in the 80s and 90s, with morning lows continuing to vary from the upper 50s to low 70s. Partly cloudy sky conditions are expected each day, with winds remaining out of the south-southeast around 15-25 MPH. Gusts as high as 35-40 MPH are likely. Isolated showers and storms can be expected to continue, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Scattered rainfall totals of 0.25′′-0.50′′ looks plausible at this point in time. By the time next weekend rolls around, we'll be expecting our next cold front to move into the region.
