It’s time for Basketball: Spurs at Warriors

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

The Spurs played their best defensive game of the season on Wednesday night against the Clippers, but unfortunately for them, that coincided with a rather poor offensive outing for them, dooming them to their tenth consecutive loss of the young season.

Tonight they play the Warriors, who are on the back end of a long period of championship relevance. I mean, Steph Curry is still great, he can’t single-handedly propel the team into contention at this point in his career. Klay Thompson’s athleticism is waning, and Draymond Green won’t even be there, as his on-court antics finally caught up with him for a 5-game suspension. Chris Paul isn’t quite the savior that the Warriors thought he might, at age 38 with a lot of mileage on the chassis, he’s having the worst season of his career so far. They did accomplish addition by subtraction by sending Jordan Poole on his way, but other young performers, notably Jonathan Kuminga, haven’t stepped up.

The Warriors’ best attribute is a deep bench, as the subs have outplayed their starters at times. That might be a problem for the Spurs, which aren’t very talented past the starters and Tre Jones coming off the bench. The line on this game is Warriors by 10.5, and the Spurs should easily cover, and they have a good chance of making this a game if they can play the kind of defense we saw on Wednesday night. It’s going to be a late night west coast game, so brew up some coffee and get caffeinated to see the end, because it could be exciting. And if it isn’t, well, you drank that coffee for nothing. My bad.

Did I mention that tonight was an In Season Tournament game? I shouldn’t have to, since the court surface will be screaming that at for the entire 48 minutes the game is on screen. Enjoy!

Game Prediction: Steve Kerr will take over the arena mike at some point to admonish the fans to stop booing Keldon Johnson, which will confuse everyone, since no one has ever booed Keldon Johnson.

One final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
