GREENCASTLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Ivy Tech's Greencastle campus held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday to open up their new Nursing Simulation Center.

The Center's goal is to help nursing students at the school get more hands-on experience before finishing their degree. It features AI mannequins that have the ability to simulate real-life scenarios which the school believes will allow their students critical experience to excel in their future careers. The state-of-the-art Simulation Center was made possible mainly by a gift from the Putnam County Community Foundation.

"Our new Nursing Simulation Center at Ivy Tech Greencastle is an impactful step toward expanding healthcare education and addressing the critical workforce needs in West Central Indiana," said Chancellor Lea Anne Crooks, Ph.D. "Thanks to partners like the Putnam County Community Foundation, we can offer students an immersive, hands-on learning environment that mirrors the demands of modern healthcare. This facility prepares them to fill vital roles in our communities and meet the growing need for skilled healthcare professionals."

By 2025 the college reports that it will increase the number of nursing students enrolled throughout Indiana by 600. At the local level, they report the number will increase by 20 annually.
