Jacksonville Jaguars to make major Doug Pederson decision after embarrassing mauling at Detroit Lions
DOUG PEDERSON may be out of time with the Jacksonville Jaguars after their embarrassing mauling against the Detroit Lions.
The Jaguars fell prey to a 52-6 defeat to the Lions on Sunday to move them to a 2-9 record.
The defeat was the joint-worst in franchise history, tied with when they were a first-year expansion team in 1995.
And this has led to serious doubts over the future of head coach Pederson, who has been at the helm since February 2022.
An off-season filled with promise including the arrival of quarterback Trevor Lawrence , several free agents and high draft picks, has given way to more of the same poor results.
Ahead of 2025, a change could reportedly happen heading into Week 12 when they enter their bye week.
According to NFL.com , believe changes in the form of Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke, would not be a surprise.
Regarding the speculation over his future, Pederson said: "I can't control that.
"I've been around this sport a long time, and if it is going to happen, it is obviously going to happen.
"But at the same time, I have a job to do and that's to get this team ready to face a good division."
On the result, he added: "We're disappointed, we're frustrated and we're angry.
"You put so much effort into a game week and then, you know, you play like this."
A midseason change would not be unprecedented either.
In 2020, GM Dave Caldwell was sacked after three seasons of 10 straight losses.
Owner Shad Khan fired Urban Meyer less than one year into a disastrous stint in 2021.
Should Pederson be relieved of his duties, QB coach Mike McCoy could step in to fill the void for the time being.
He has previous experience having coached the Los Angeles Chargers between 2013 and 2016.
The Jaguars face the conference-topping Houston Texans in their next game on December 1, with many fans fearing the worst.
They will be without Lawrence for that game as he nurses a left shoulder injury.
It means Mac Jones will start in his stead.
He managed to throw just 138 yards with one interception against the Lions.
