Jaguars GM Trent Baalke's Resurfaced Quote Sparks Job Security Buzz
The Jacksonville Jaguars have had a disastrous season, as the team entered Week 11 with a 2-8 record. On Sunday, Jacksonville fell to a 28-6 deficit entering halftime against the Detroit Lions.
If this keeps up, the Jaguars are projected to own the No. 1 pick overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Although a highly valued draft pick would benefit the organization, this season's failures are proving to be a major disappointment for the fanbase.
Before the season began, many believed the Jaguars would be the second-best team in the AFC South behind the Houston Texans. Instead, the offense is 25th in yards per game (302.9), while the defense comes in dead last, allowing an average of 390.6 yards per game.
There is plenty of talent on the roster, and the team looked solid in the previous two seasons. Expectations were high in 2022 after the Jaguars selected Travon Walker first overall. So much so that general manager Trent Baalke claimed that that would be the final time he'd select first overall as the Jaguars GM.
Between the collapse this season and that quote from 2022, Jaguars fans were quick to speculate that Baalke may lose his job at the end of this season. Many joked that Baalke's prediction is right, as they believe Jacksonville will have the first pick overall and that Baalke will be gone.
"If/when we get the first pick, he'll be canned so he's correct," stated one fan .
Another fan claimed , "We can only hope."
"YEAH BYE BYE (Expletive)," said one user .
An angry fan explained , "This team is gonna be bad for the next three years at least. I really feel sorry for the clowns who bought tickets to watch this team. There is absolutely no entertainment value in this team."
"Gotta love it," said another individual .
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a severe AC joint sprain in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old quarterback's absence isn't the issue. Before the injury, the Jaguars were 2-6 entering Week 9.
Lawrence has had an abysmal year. Through nine games played, the Jaguars quarterback has totaled just 2,004 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and six interceptions while throwing a 61.3% completion percentage.
Jacksonville has a relatively easy schedule in their final six games not including the Week 11 matchup against the Lions. The Jaguars will take on the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans twice, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, and Indianapolis Colts.
