The Reading Eagle also requires a way to verify the death, so please include either the phone number of the funeral home or cremation service that is in charge of the deceased's care or a photo of his/her death certificate. We also request that your full name, phone number and address are all included in this email.

All payments by families must be made with a credit card. We will send a proof of the completed obituary before we require payment. The obituary cannot run, however, until we receive payment in full.

Obituaries can be submitted for any future date, but they must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. the day prior to its running for it to be published.

Jane M. Showers, 93, a resident of Brethren Village in Lititz, PA went to be with her Lord on September 30, 2024. She passed away peacefully at UPMC Lititz. Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Clara (Wegman) Knabb. She was married for 63 years to the love of her life, Dr. H. Byron Showers who died April 5, 2015. She attended Long Memorial United Methodist Church in Neffsville, PA. A 1949 graduate of Mt. Penn High School in Reading, PA, she earned an RN from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kutztown University, and worked as a school nurse in Parkland School District and later in Exeter Township School District. In 1970, she received her Master of Arts degree from Millersville University and taught kindergarten at Mountville and later at Nitrauer School and Brecht School in Manheim Township and second grade at Brecht School. She was a member and former president of Pi Lambda Theta. Gardening, exercising, and taking walks with her late husband were some of the simple things in life that brought Jane joy. In her earlier years, you could find her on the dance floor with her husband and attending concerts with her daughter performing. In year 2000, she enjoyed accompanying Shelley on The Philadelphia Orchestra European Tour. Surviving are three children, David, husband of Dianne (Abrams) of Boalsburg, PA, Thomas, husband of Evie (Greene) of Duncansville, PA, and Shelley Showers of Cherry Hill, NJ, and two granddaughters, Alexandra and Michelle Showers. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Knabb and his wife, Carol of Mohnton, PA. The family wishes to thank the community at Brethren Village and the staff at Kissel Hill Family Practice, Lancaster General Hospital, and UPMC Lititz. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jane's Funeral Service at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing and time of visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be in Long Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery. There will be a time of viewing and visitation with the family on the evening prior on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
