Jason Hammes leading Marina Spahr in race for district court judge in North Dakota
T.Lee23 min ago
Jason Hammes held a nearly 2-1 lead over Marina Spahr late Tuesday in the contest to replace retiring South Central District Court Judge Bruce Romanick.
With complete returns from 49 of 82 precincts and partial returns from 30 precincts, Hammes had more than 66%, or 17,280 votes, compared to 8,686, or nearly 33%, of votes cast for Spahr. As of late Tuesday, 21,142 votes had been tallied.
Hammes currently serves the court as a judicial referee, a position he's held since 2019. Spahr leads the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Division. Both advanced through the June primary to the general election after Romanick announced he would not seek re-election to a post he's held for 20 years.
District court judges serve six-year terms, and the winner will assume their new duties on Jan. 1. The position's salary, set by the Legislature, is $171,113 annually. The South Central Judicial District comprises the counties of Burleigh, Emmons, Grant, McLean, Mercer, Morton, Oliver, Sheridan and Sioux.Reach Brad Nygaard at 701-250-8260 or
