Jasper man sentenced to 21 years for trafficking meth

JASPER, Texas (KTRE) - A Jasper man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms violations, according to U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs. Larry Buckley, 44, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, as well as being a felon possessing a gun. He was sentenced to 21 years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on November 6. According to information presented in court, in October 2022, a joint investigation began between federal, state and local law enforcement, identifying Buckley as a source of supply for a drug trafficking organization distributing large quantities of meth in the Jasper and Lufkin areas, as well as the Sabine Parish, Louisiana area. During the investigation, it was found that Buckley was supplying numerous people with large amounts of meth. Law enforcement officers were able to purchase meth and guns directly from Buckley. Buckley has previously been convicted of various felony offenses including engaging in organized criminal activity, manufacture delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and burglary of a habitation. As a convicted felon, Buckley is prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition. The case was investigated by the FBI; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Texas Department of Public Safety; and the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office. This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald S. Carter.
