Jazz's road woes continue in rout by lowly Grizzlies
Estimated read time: 1-2 minutes
MEMPHIS — The NBA's adage of it's a make-or-miss league doesn't usually refer to layups and dunks. It did Wednesday.
The Utah Jazz shot an astoundingly bad 10-of-24 at the rim in Memphis. The rest of the game didn't go any better for them, either.
Memphis rolled to a 105-91 victory over the Jazz at FedEx Forum, continuing Utah's Jekyll-and-Hyde season.
It was the Grizzlies' first home win this season. But based on how the Jazz have played on the road lately, Memphis may have licked its chops for this one. Utah is now 1-8 on the road, and all but one of those losses have come by double digits.
The Jazz may just be a feisty, fun, and competitive team in Salt Lake City, and ... um, something else away from it.
Two nights after completing a two-game sweep of the New Orleans Pelicans, the Jazz found themselves down by as many as 25 points to a team that had only won three games before Wednesday.
The Jazz jumped out to an 8-point lead behind a 15-7 start, but not much went right after that.
The Grizzlies won the second quarter 36-17 to blow open the game. Utah teased a comeback a few times, and a late run cut the Memphis lead to 13 in the waning minutes, but it was too little and far too late.
Utah shot 38% from the field, mostly due to the struggle shooting inside.
Jaren Jackon Jr. — the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year — had six blocks and altered plenty more, as Utah opened the game shooting 3-of-15 at the rim. Jackson had a game-high 20 points to go along with his defensive impact.
