Jeanne Welch McCormick OBITUARY
Jeanne was born in Sacramento, California, to Eugene and Ella Welch. Jeanne was a fourth-generation Californian and a 57-year resident of Orinda. She was adored by her sisters who were 10 years older and affectionally called her "The Baby" for years. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. Jeanne will be truly missed by her family and many friends whose lives she so deeply touched. All those who knew her loved her for her humor, cheerfulness, intellect, compassion, and loveliness, both inside and out.
Jeanne graduated from UC Berkeley ('55) in political science and enjoyed being a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In her senior year, she met her beloved Loyd, her husband of 58 years. In Orinda, she led a busy life centered around her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was blessed with many dear friends and loved spending time with them.
Jeanne's interests included golf, tennis, bridge, gardening, reading, politics, entertaining, financial markets, traveling, and community service. Her travel interests took her to 29 countries and over 40 states.
Throughout her life, Jeanne was actively involved in many organizations. She loved being a member of the Orinda Garden Club, Orinda Country Club, Hospice East Bay, Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, her investment club, her book club, The Francisca Club, Church of Santa Maria parish, and many more.
Jeanne is now reunited with Loyd who predeceased her ten years ago. She is survived by her loving children Dave, Janet (Ben), and Ken (Karla), and her grandchildren Duncan, John, Kendall, Keith, Jamie, Ana, and Trent. She is also survived by her sister Ellen's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Jeanne's caregivers and GIMAG HEALTHCARE for their compassionate home health and hospice care during the last two weeks of her life. A memorial mass and reception will be held for friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jeanne's memory to UC Berkeley Foundation, Church of Santa Maria, or the charity of your choice.
