GREENSBORO – The Eastern Music Festival is thrilled to present "Visionaries & Dreamers," a concert featuring EMF Faculty Artists Jeff Multer and Julian Schwarz, accompanied by the Eastern Festival Orchestra under the direction of Gerard Schwarz. This much-anticipated event will take place on Saturday, July 6, at 8 PM, as part of the festival's Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Festival Orchestra Series.

Held in the beautiful Dana Auditorium on the picturesque campus of Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, the evening promises an extraordinary musical journey. The program features Still's "Threnody: In Memory of Jean Sibelius," Brahms' "Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor, op. 102," and Franck's "Symphony in D minor, FWV 48."

Still's "Threnody," described by musicologist Matthew Mendez as possessing a "doleful cast" and a profound connection to Sibelius, promises a poignant tribute. Brahms' Concerto offers a powerful blend of strength and lyricism, showcasing the collaborative spirit between violin and cello. Franck's Symphony, known for its "dark opening" that transitions to a "radiant, quasi-luminous" conclusion, will provide a captivating finale to the evening.

Julian Schwarz, born in 1991 into a musical family, is celebrated as one of the finest cellists of the 21st century. He made his concerto debut at age 11 with the Seattle Symphony under his father, EMF Music Director Gerard Schwarz, and has since performed over 250 concerto engagements worldwide. A winner of prestigious competitions, including the Schoenfeld International String Competition and the Boulder International Chamber Music Competition, Schwarz has premiered concertos by several renowned composers. An EMF alumnus, he studied with Neal Cary and won the EMF Concerto Competition. Holding degrees from The Juilliard School, where he also taught, Schwarz is now Associate Professor of Cello at Shenandoah Conservatory and on the Artist Faculty of NYU Steinhardt. He plays a Gennaro Gagliano cello (circa 1743) and endorses Pirastro Perpetual strings and Melos Rosin.

Violinist Jeff Multer, renowned for his passionate performances, musical depth, and brilliant technique, made his acclaimed Kennedy Center debut in 1993 and has since performed globally as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. Artistic director of the Palladium Chamber Series in Florida and chamber music at the Eastern Music Festival in North Carolina, Multer also serves as concertmaster for The Florida Orchestra and the Eastern Music Festival. A Juilliard alumnus and Lincoln Center Fellowship recipient, Multer began violin studies at age five and hails from a family of accomplished musicians. He has recorded for Albany and Naxos records.

Don't miss this unique concert, offering an evening of profound musical experiences and exceptional artistry.
