WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Jefferson Community College will be offering a new microcredential for its Early Childhood Development program.

In an announcement for the college, the new Early Childhood Development 1 microcredential will be designed to give individuals with essential skills and knowledge to start a career, or advance in their existing role, in childcare and related fields.

The program, which is JCC's 15th microcredential program , will consist of three credit-bearing courses and offer a fast, flexible, and focused educational path allowing individuals to gain important credentials without the longer commitment of a full Associate degree program.

Students that complete the microcredential will earn nine college credits while acquiring knowledge and skills in several important areas. These areas include understanding child development, ethics of early childhood care and education, the importance of diversity and inclusion, effective observation, assessment, classroom management strategies, and regulatory standards as defined by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, as well as improved interpersonal and communication skills.

Anyone that finishes the program will be well-positioned for career entry and advancement, but also have the option to transfer these nine credits toward one of JCC's certificate or degree programs, such as the Early Childhood A.A.S. or A.S. degrees.
