Jennifer Hall Lee won re-election to the Pasadena Unified School District Board District 2 seat with a decisive victory Tuesday, capturing 71.03% of the vote.

Hall Lee defeated challenger Juan Carlos Pérez, securing 7,984 votes to Pérez's 3,257 votes in semifinal results updated Wednesday afternoon.

In her first post-election interview, Hall Lee told Pasadena Now that she "knocked on well over 5,000 doors and personally met my constituents." She is scheduled to transition from Vice President to Board President in her second term on the seven-member Board, which oversees the District with members serving four-year terms.

"As the incoming Board President, I am focused on the work we can do together as a governance team to increase outcomes for students in the areas of literacy, math and college career readiness, continuing to stabilize our budget, and supporting the success of our teachers and staff," Hall Lee said.

A Hampshire College graduate and 2018 Fulbright finalist, Hall Lee brings 30 years of entertainment industry experience as a documentary filmmaker. Her extensive community service includes establishing Eliot Arts Magnet Academy's first annual fund, creating the District's first Women's History Month assembly, serving as a Girl Scout co-leader, and working on the Superintendent's Enrollment Committee since taking office in 2020.

Her challenger, Pérez, brought his own educational credentials as a Wesleyan University graduate and former educator who now serves as marketing director at Art+Logic.

The victory provides continuity in Pasadena Unified School District leadership as Hall Lee prepares to implement the District's strategic plan.

"The foundation for my passion in running for a second term is our strategic plan which is the roadmap for taking the District to the next level of excellence," she said.

She said her priorities focus around improving student achievement in literacy and mathematics, enhancing college and career readiness, maintaining District financial stability, and bolstering support for teachers and staff.
