Jersey dog mess campaign aims to raise money for charity

People from Jersey are being asked to help in the fight to clean up dog mess and raise money for charities at the same time.

A group of professional dog walkers launched "The Wild Poo Project" on social media after one of them found 86 items of dog faeces on three recent walks.

They hope the campaign will raise awareness of the importance of picking up after animals.

Organisers said they would donate money to dog charities for every one picked up by a member of the public.

Project member Gail Bennie said professional dog walkers recovered 2kg (4.4lbs) of dog waste at Portelet Common on a recent walk.

"This was after a bank holiday weekend so we did wonder whether more people had been out enjoying the wild space," she said.

Levi Wylie, who is also behind the campaign, said leaving dog waste behind was bad for the environment.

"So I do think it's important that people clean up and are careful where they're letting their dogs walk," she said.
