Jersey ice rink to open with limited hours after delays

An ice rink in Jersey is set to open with reduced opening hours this weekend due to a "delay in the installation of light rigging", organisers have said.

Jersey Development Company (JDC) said the Weighbridge Ice Rink in St Helier will open on Saturday from 09:30 GMT.

It said the rink will shut at 16:00 GMT between 16 and 19 November to "ensure safety in low light conditions".

The rink was initially scheduled to open for October half-term but it was delayed after a metal stake was accidentally driven through a 90,000-volt electricity cable.

Organisers said the incident happened on 11 October when an anchoring stake to weather-proof the rink's marquee against high winds was being put into the ground.

The JDC apologised for the delay and any disappointment it caused.

It said people who have booked to use the ice rink during the restricted period in November will be contacted.

The ice rink will be shut on 20 and 21 November, but opening times will be confirmed from 22 November, it said.
