Sports Jets, Robert Saleh Prepared to Give Mike Williams Snap Increase

The New York Jets were always going to put veteran wide receiver Mike Williams on a snap count early in the season.

At 29 years old and coming off a torn ACL, it was always in New York's best interest to bring Williams back slowly to the speed of the NFL instead of demanding results right away.

The Jets' Week 1 strategy showed just how slow they will be with the former Los Angeles Charger.

Williams played in just nine snaps in New York's 32-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers Monday night. He was not targeted in the contest as most of the offense bled through Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.

That was also by design for head coach Robert Saleh.

"We were trying to get him to 15 last week. Obviously, there are not enough opportunities," Saleh said. "If we could've got to a 65-play game like it normally would be, we would've been on pace, so yes, long story short we are trying to get him on the field more."

Williams will have his knee tested further throughout the season this year. Having his first make his way back to the field is just the first part of this entire overall conversation, though.
