Jhop's Championship Week Top Ten Rankings

S.Brown3 months ago

Well folks we did it. We’ve come to the end of the regular season of college football and soon you’ll realize that means the long off-season is ahead. I’m already dreading it myself but I’m going to enjoy this last run.

Hopefully Oregon can make it a long run.

Speaking of Oregon, I went bold last week and moved the Ducks up to the No. 2 spot in my rankings. Yes I’m aware there are undefeated teams but it’s time to start judging by the product on the field. Oregon suffered a 3-point loss on the road to a top four (& undefeated) team. It’s not like they lost to Tennessee Tech or got blown out by Cal.

Another week and another massive win for the Ducks and now more national media are creeping Oregon closer to my No. 2 ranking from last week. I’m keeping them there with just a few moving pieces this week.

Here is last weeks rankings for reference.

  1. – No change at the top. And like I said last week, anyone that starts a list with anyone other than Georgia isn’t paying attention. This is the team to beat in college football but they are beatable. If you are Oregon you are hoping to get either that 2 or 3 seed and save this one for the grand finale.
  2. – Just watch the games. This team has no flinch and the weak spot, the secondary (safety) isn’t awful. It’s just not as good as most other groups on the field which all happen to be above average. The Ducks are healthy and should be able to compete with anyone in the top four.
  3. – See above, just watch the games. UW keeps winning and there’s something to be said for that. But it really makes you wonder when that ‘luck’ might run out. Statistically speaking that day is coming, it’s just a matter of when.
  4. – Yes they beat Ohio State, great. The first and only quality win this season. And now I’m left wondering just how good Ohio State is or isn’t. I should probably have Bama here and I would if they hadn’t tried to lose the Iron bowl. But they won and if these two met on a neutral field I expect Bama would be favored.
  5. – Like I said last week I think this is one of the top three teams in the country. I still do. I also think this one will work itself out in the end somehow. I guess we’ll see.
  6. – Meh fine, good team. But I like Georgia, Oregon and Bama most. I could see Texas, UW and Michigan beating up on each other. And I might have to say watch out for Missouri too.
  7. Ohio State – I’m not sure about Ohio State. They just aren’t physical nor are they flashy with explosiveness. I think they might have been able to run on Michigan for 300 yards if they wanted to. It’s a good team and right now I think they’d only be favored vs FSU in the top ten. Maybe Missouri by a couple points.
  8. – This is Arizona of the SEC. Solid on both sides of the ball. Play good ball, disciplined. That one team that can beat you if you slip up at all.
  9. Florida State – I said this last week when I ranked them at No. 10 but it was time. The Jordan Travis injury took a team that was just skating by, much like UW and made them much less effective. I don’t think they’ll win this week and that helps create the potential opening for Oregon to get into those coveted mid spots. (2&3)
  10. Ole Miss -I had to put someone here and honestly I wanted to put Arizona. But given they have 3 losses I couldn’t justify it. Plus Ole Miss is really good too. I think that would be one heck of a game. Gotta give Lane credit for being resilient in a tough conference.
