Joann was born in McKinleyville, CA to Amos and Katherine Harper, the youngest of four children. She loved the innocence and curiosity of young children, which led her to pursue her career teaching preschool. She continued sharing her love by spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. A prolific seamstress, she made many quilts for the babies in the family and for friends, and often experimented with other sewn items (bags, aprons, and more) to give as gifts.
She loved being a part of a large family. She was often involved in planning family trips to the beach, or to the park, or to her home. She often hosted Thanksgiving or Christmas, and anybody and everybody was welcome. She could be seen basking in the warmth of her family as those she loved most were around her.
Joann and Hector were devoted members of St. Joseph Church in Pinole. Together they celebrated their faith by attending Mass and Bible study. She was also a member of the YLI (Young Ladies Institute) and was active in the Cursillo community. Joann had a deep faith that she shared unconditionally.
Joann was a loving wife to her husband Hector for 37 years. She loved to have a quiet morning coffee, she loved to read, she loved to laugh. She was supportive, loving, compassionate. She was beautiful. She will be dearly missed.
