Joann Link Stack

Joann Link Stack, 88, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at her home in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She was the wife of Peter J. Stack. Born May 10, 1936, at the family home in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Elwood Ralph Link and Mary Alice Alexander Link. Joann grew up on a farm in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, graduating from Woodrow Wilson Memorial High School and continuing her education for Nurses Training at Kings Daughter's Hospital in Staunton, Virginia. For over 20 years Joann worked as a nurse. She began her career at The Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind, moving on to Englewood Hospital in New Jersey, Kings Daughter's Hospital in Virginia, Erlanger Hospital in Tennessee, and finally at Chester County Hospital in Pennsylvania. During her "retirement" from nursing, Joann worked tirelessly, side by side with her husband, and founded Brandywine Ice Company. In recent years they also founded The Antique Ice Tool Museum. Joann was a member of St. Agnes Parish, West Chester, Pennsylvania. Joann was a "farm girl" and loved the simple things in life- watching the deer and fox in the yard, anticipating the change of season, first snow and later tulips nosing through in spring. Every fall, family and close friends could count on a copy of "The Old Farmers Almanac" arriving in the mail. A full moon never went by without mention. As much as she loved home, Joann enjoyed traveling to places all over the world with family and friends, and was proud to be able to say she had visited all 50 states. She enjoyed word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, gospel music, and pugs. She also enjoyed basketball, and even played with The Harlem Globetrotters in high school. Every March she was found with a grid at the ready to watch and follow March Madness. Her pride and joy were her much loved grandchildren. Joann was found attending school plays, ballet performances, cheering on the side lines of soccer, field hockey, horseback riding, cycling, rowing, and lacrosse sporting events and listening to concerts. She was happy to have visited every grandchild's college campus, celebrated 21st Birthdays and many graduations. In addition to her husband of 65 years, Joann is survived by daughters, Karen Stack Stratman (John III), Kathy Stack Barth (Karl) and Kim Stack Goldbecker (Paul); grandchildren John IV, Megan, Madeline (Elliott), Abigail and Norah and many loving nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by siblings Anna Jane Link, Betty Lou Moffett, Mary Sue Huffman and Elwood Ralph Link, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home 410 N. Church St. West Chester, www.DellaFH.com. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Agnes Church 233 W. Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380 Interment will be in private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Agnes School, West Chester, PA, Mt Pisgah United Methodist Church, Mount Sidney, VA, Valley Mission, Staunton, VA, Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind, Staunton, VA, or Paoli Hospital, Paoli, PA.
