December 17, 1955 - October 24, 2024

Jose Luis, 68, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the home of his esteemed son Rigoberto. Funeral services will be held Friday November 1, 2024, at St John's Lutheran Church, 4501 7th Avenue, Rock Island, Ill. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Holy Mass at 12 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.

Jose Luis was born in San Jeronimo, Guanajuato, Mexico in 1955 to Alica Perez Mendez and Jose Marcos Ramirez Gonzalez. He was raised by his maternal grandparents after his mother passed away at the age of 7. He went on to marry Maria del Socorro Ramos in 1973 in Salvatierra, Guanajuato, Mexico. He arrived in Moline in 1976. Jose Luis and Socorro went on to have five children who they raised together in the Quad Cities. They were married for 42 years until she passed away in 2015. He never remarried.

Jose Luis worked as a laborer at Foremost Meat Packing Company and XPAC for many years. Despite being hard manual jobs, he embraced them. He was the primary provider ensuring his wife and children always had a roof over their heads and food on the table. He retired in 2016. Jose Luis was outgoing, friendly, kind, and quickly made friends with everyone. He loved to listen to music on his record player, fish, watch baseball, do crosswords, read magazines, and visit with friends and family. He had a love for cats and dogs and made sure his kids always had a pet cat growing up, much to Socorro's dismay.

He loved all of his children and grandchildren and was very proud of their many accomplishments. As sad as his earth family is we are joyous to see him go home to the Lord to be reunited with his beloved mother, Alicia, and wife Socorro. The two loves of his life.

Memorials may be made anonymously in his honor to any Alcoholics Anonymous chapter or The QC Animal Welfare Center.

He is survived by his children and spouses, Maria Alicia Ramirez-Gomez (Jose Gomez), Rock Island, Maria Elena Ramirez-Sierra (Miguel Sierra), Rock Island, Antonio Ramirez, Rock Island, Alejandro Ramirez (Rebecca), Des Moines, Iowa, Rigoberto Ramirez, Rock Island; 19 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; siblings, Juan Gonzalez (Elidia), Rosa Ramirez, and Salvador Ramirez.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alicia Perez Mendez; father, Jose Marcos Ramirez Gonzalez; grandparents, Valente Perez Rodriguez and Maria Mendez; uncle, Javier Perez Mendez and wife Maria Del Socorro Ramirez Ramos.

The family would like to thank St Johns's Lutheran Church, Pastor Jennifer Ohman-Rodriguez, and Pastor Jose Pilar Alvarez for their support during this time.
