Josephine Mary (Reiss) Gainard, 94, of Nicholson Street, Wilkes-Barre, died
Sunday in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Bridget
(McTague) Reiss. She was a graduate of Coughlin High School, class of 1928.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and its
Altar and Rosary Society. She played in the Wilkes-Barre City Basketball
League, and prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Isaac Long
Department Store, Wilkes-Barre.

Preceding her in death are her husband, a former Wilkes-Bare City
Policeman, John J. Gainard; brothers, Frederick and Vincent Reiss; sisters,
Catherine Lavan and Emma (Betty) Jeans; and grandson, Anthony Gainard.

Josephine is survived by her daughters, Mrs. James (Mary J.) Dress,
Bensalem; Mrs. Vincent (Regina) Zampetti, Danville; Mrs. Henry (Peggy) Pruitt,
King City, Calif.; sons, Johns A., Kingston; Joseph L., Medina, Ohio; 13
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Regina Dougherty, Roselle Park,
N.J.; Mary Carr, Laguna Niguel, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Leo P. Lehman Funeral Home,
with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 316
Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. John Kilpatrick, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society.
